A Voice We Need.  The Change We Deserve.

I am running for Andover School Committee because I believe it is time to hear from a new voice to help bring about necessary change for the school district.

As a resident, parent, and teacher, I have a unique opportunity to use my voice to represent these multiple constituencies and make positive change for our students.  There are many issues facing Andover Public Schools, such as the $2.7 million school budget deficit, the nationwide search for the next Andover High School principal, the opening of the new West Elementary/Shawsheen building, the ongoing discussions surrounding the current Andover High School building, and the public transit housing proposals.  Most importantly, however, is the issue of relationships.  We have the opportunity to work collaboratively as a community to build productive and meaningful partnerships between and among our town, our schools, our parents, and our students.  I hope to foster open and constructive dialogue with all voices as we navigate this crucial time for Andover Public Schools.

My knowledge and experience as an educator for two decades will provide both insight and balance to the sitting Committee.  Through my tenure at Nashua High School South (NH), I have served in a multitude of leadership capacities, from advising student-teachers and mentoring new hires, to developing and redesigning curriculum and piloting new programs.  In these positions, I have gained an understanding of the administrative and pedagogical decisions that are made on many levels within the school district.  My favorite professional role, however, is teacher.  Since 2004, I have been surrounded by bright and curious adolescents, and they have reminded me daily why I chose to be an educator.  I think we all need to be reminded why we are here: for the kids.  It’s as simple as that.

And it’s as simple as this: at the end of the day, I’m just a mom with two awesome daughters who believes in the power of education and the power of community.  It’s time for me to use my voice beyond my classroom walls and speak up for the students of Andover.  Please join me.
